Chill Factor (1989)

Three couples go away for a weekend of snowmobiling and stop at a bar in a small town for some food and drink.  Tommy and Chris get in an argument about who can race faster.  The waitress tells them there’s a lake bed thirty miles outside town called Black Friar Lake. She warns them if the weather gets bad to head back right away as there is nothing out there for miles.

They get to the lake and begin to race, but at the end Tommy crashes and flies into a tree. Chris has a medical background and says Tommy has a concussion and they need to keep him warm. They find an abandoned lodge nearby to get out of the cold. One of the guys heads back to get help since Chris is concerned Tommy could die if he has internal injuries.

The girls start to look around and find multiple references to satanic activity and a tragedy in the former religious camp.  What are the odds this could be a problem? Well if you thought they’d be careful, you’d be dead wrong. When they find a game with an eyeball in the middle of a wheel, Jeannie says her mother used to use it and it’s called the devils eye. If you believe then you can talk to spirits, but you never know what is going to come through. And thus we are on our way for bad things to happen to these poor saps.

There is occasional narration from the lone survivor stating the events took place thirty years ago. It’s slightly confusing at first because she sounds like she’s smoked a ton of cigarettes. Her voice sounds nothing like the younger actress so it took me awhile to figure out who was talking.

This is not how you end a snowmobile race
The start of the race was so promising
Kind of odd their motto is about the beast
The eyeball in the game is called the devils eye
Third satan reference? They’re in trouble
What sort of game has enemy on the wheel?
