Curse of the Forty Niner (2002)

Jared sends his sister Claire a letter with a gold nugget and a map.  Claire, her boyfriend and some friends head out to the mining town because who doesn’t want gold.  But when they arrive, Jared is nowhere to be found.

They decide to look for the mine, and find it fairly easily. The issue is it can only be entered by crawling into it, which isn’t a great entrance for a mine. They grab some gold and celebrate their fortune, not knowing the gold is cursed.

They’ve found the mine of Jeremiah Stone, who was trapped with the Donner party, but survived to  become a claim jumper.  If you steal his gold, he’ll come back from the dead and will be after you until you return every piece of gold you took.

This movie made me ask the question, is the ratio of unlikeable people higher in movies than in real life? I don’t know this many jerks.  Or do I distance myself from people like this because they are irritating and make life less enjoyable?

Ridiculous dialogue

Can we help you Sheriff?
I don’t know. Can you?

Who keeps the candles lit in the cave?
Copying the Evil Dead with a pick ax inserted in the wrist
Why is Jeremiah’s skeleton lying uncovered?
I was worried about sand getting in the actors eye
Does dating require both to bleach the front of their heads?
